TrueBoundary
Fours, sixes and fielders on the rope are decided from camera angles that were never meant for the job. TrueBoundary asks whether the evidence can come from the boundary itself.
Design studyThe problem
Calls at the boundary are some of the most disputed in the game. A fielder's foot, a ball grounded a centimetre inside, a catch juggled over the line: each depends on which angle you were given.
Reconstructing the moment afterwards is slow, and not every ground has the cameras to do it.
Who it is for
— Third umpires and broadcasters.
— Grounds and leagues without full camera coverage.
— Fielders and batters, who live with the decision.
Our approach
We are studying how a boundary could report contact directly, so that the call starts from evidence instead of inference. At this stage the work is design and feasibility.
Where it stands
- Stage
- Design study
- Status
— Design study. Requirements and test method being defined.
— Concept-level only; no field trial yet.
- Looking for
— Umpires and groundskeepers to review our requirements.
— Venues that would host a trial once the design is ready.
- Technical detail
- Shared with boards, partners and investors under a confidentiality agreement.
